Florida police chased down and apprehended a "violent sexual predator" Monday wanted on an open warrant.
The encounter began shortly before noon after Port Orange police received an alert from an automated license plate reader concerning a car owned by a man wanted on a warrant from St. Lucie County for “failure of sex offender to report vacating a residence," the department stated in a social media post. An officer spotted the car and the suspect—identified as Sean Gary Hendershot—at gas station pump, and he approached the man, who was outside his car.
As the two spoke, Hendershot gave the officer a false name and then tried to flee on foot. The officer quickly pursued the man and apprehended him.
Hendershot was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and giving a false name. Police later found that Hendershot had multiple warrants from St. Lucie and Dixie counties concerning violations of sexual offender probation for failure to report change of residence.
